I made this for a contest, and after seeing the actual logo and being disappointed, I decided to post my version.

I set-out to make something akin to the Xbox 360’s sphere, an icon. After seeing the teaser for Feb. 20th, I thought they needed something energizing, so I made what I call the “lighting bolt” icon. The viewer is to see the bolt first, associate it, the power and revitalizing energy (especially after the lackluster life of the PS3 in North America), with the Playstation and upon further inspection, notice the 4. Those were my goals, lighting bolt first, “4” second. I also made sure to make something that would look just as good embossed on the console.

I’m feel apathetic toward my use of Helvetica, but it seems like PlayStation has abandoned its old custom-made font in favor of Helvetica. Although, I must say the plain font does further emphasize the icon.
